Hey you!
Its been ages since we last had a proper chat! so we’ve decided to start the conversation by talking about what’s happening at jobsgopublic.comOur strap-line ‘It’s all about the talent’ is really a promise to you - the job seeker, the user of jobsgopublic.com services - that we’re here to create a community of services for you that grow from one core promise “The biggest and best range of UK public sector jobs online”What kind of service I hear you ask? Well we’ve got a pretty good idea of the types of services we think you’d like and some more that you probably don’t realise you’ll like. What we really want is some feedback from you as we develop and test out our ideas, we’d like to start that conversation now.The world of work is changing: job advertising has moved online, and with it the process of applying for jobs. I think we’re all pretty used to that idea now, and if not then what are you waiting for? If you look around the corner you can see that finding and applying for jobs online is fast becoming career management online. From your online profile to news and information about an employer, it’s all to be found online. What? you don’t have an online profile you say?Just think of the millions of people out there that have an eBay rating from buying or selling something on eBay, the millions that express a preference for certain books through their use of Amazon, or holiday preferences through lastminute.com. Many of these people may have been guided in their choices through the comments and feedback from other users of the site; a holiday review here, a book write-up there.Ok, so you may not have an ‘official’ online career profile yet, but millions of you are slowly creating a virtual image of who you are and what you do. We think its time to harness your digital selves and put them to work for your career. We’ve begun a re-design of the visual style and structure of jobsgopublic.com. Over the next month we’ll be showing you what that looks like and hopefully getting some feedback from you. Next, I’ll post some initial shots of the new look and feel.

Am I the first to leave a comment?
Yes indeed you are. I bet you cant wait for the screen shots :)
I registered with yourself and two other boroughs at the same time and have had numerous emails with jobs available from the two others but nothing from yourselves in a year.Looking forward to getting something from you soon now you are updating your systems !!!!
Gaynor,
Thanks for the feedback. As a registered user you should have received an email from us asking you to log in to jobsgopublic.com so that we can be sure to migrate your data to the new system as an active user.
That being said - we have re-worked email notification system and the search system - you should indeed start getting more relevant and reliable email alerts. You will also be able to subscribe to an RSS feed of your job alerts - so you’ll have even more ways to find your perfect job.
I’d be very interested to get your feedback once we update the system. Keep in touch.
Cheers,
Eben
Why have you changed a well designed, user friendly search site, into a very slow sometimes crashing, with to many extra pages before the actual search, long drop down menu for location. Hard on the eye to read formatting (looks like an old data print out sheet with all the broken lines between vacancies). I used to show this site to students as a good example of a local authority vacancy site. There is not even the option of contact details on the page anywhere. It took me 10 minutes to find this page. Whoever said change is for the better has not seen this site.
@Carol
Thanks for the honest feedback - I’m pleased you’re passionate about the site, less so that you feel so badly about it.
I’d like to address your concerns one by one.
I appreciate your feedback about usability and we will be monitoring use and testing layouts via standard A/B multivariate testing. As for the design well….each to their own I guess.
Yes it’s been slow at times and it has even failed to server pages - it has never actually crashed. We are tuning the system to deal with load as fast as we can so expect to see a huge improvement in stability and page delivery times.
Extra pages I am unaware of - the site is a clone of the old one in terms of actual pages - barring this blog which is entirely separate as I’m sure you appreciate.
I agree the location drop down is too long and we are looking at ways to categorise locations in order to reduce the list and remain flexible.
Not sure what you mean by broken lines between vacancies in the search results.? What browser & version are you running? On what OS platform?
Contact details have not changed - this blog is linked to twice from the front page - how did it take 10 min to find?
Would you be willing to focus your insights? I’d be really happy for you to join our expert users group and help us to shape the future (and design) of the product.
Are you up for it Carol?
Cheers,
Eben
