New Page Designs
We’ve been busy working on the look and feel for jobsgopublic.com. The aim of the re-design is to create a cleaner look and feel with an easier to navigate structure. Here are some early designs to give you glimpse of what’s coming.
This is the new look home page - you can see its more focused, less fragmented and generally cleaner looking.

Here is the Jobs Search Results page

The Job Detail Page

And if you haven’t signed up yet (why ever not?) this is what the Sign Up page looks like

And finally a News Article Page

These designs are bound to change a bit over the next month or so as we refine them (based on your feedback) so the final site designs will be similar to these but not exactly the same. That leads me on quite nicely to another thing I wanted to mention - iterative improvement. Once we have launched these new designs we will be looking at how they are used and tweaking them and our services in response use patterns and user feedback. Next I’ll be talking about some of the new services we’re planning - so at the very least our competitors (who?) should be reading this blog ;)

Like it. Will there be a way to flick to each job (like a next or previous button) or do I need to create user story?
i like it, very clean looking and it’s good not to be overwhelmed with text but to have some space to allow the eye to relax and take it the info…good stuff
There will be the ubiquitous next > and < previous buttons on the jobs listings page.
p.s. check out their website…haven’t i seen that shape on the ld logo branding somewhere else before?!? :)
Indeed - tho the ID logo was done months b4 jobsgopublic.com - and our branding was done by another firm - design has definite trends tho.
Like lot’s of the stuff I see here, but a small concern, how quick do those large images load? We have a large image thing on jgp.co.uk that is slow to load when browsing on mobile devices.
We will have a separate stylesheet for Mobile devices that will limit the images and page sizes to a mobile friendly 20k ish :)
Nice and clean new layout which retains key features of the established brand. I like it.
I really like the fresh new look, especially the nice clean layout.
In regards to the news, will we be able to search for articles via date (i.e: month breakdown) as well as category?
Mel,
Thanks for your comment - we do anticipate having features such as this in the not too distant future.
Cheers,
Eben
Very clean and I like the inventory, how often will the central design change?
Andy,
Glad you like the design - the central design will more likely evolve from here on in rather than having a change point. As to how and when it will change? we will be driven by what our users want/need to achieve, with - we hope - some innovation thrown into the mix by us.
Cheers,
Eben
Hello,
I think the design is all right.
What I do not like is banner ads in the administration area (back end). I cannot see their point. I ssurely won’t click any of them.
You surely are able to finance the site with adverts in the front end. The usage of the backend does cost, too - so one could really expect a banner free zone…
I have a lot of jobs to upload on a weekly basis, and as your site (server config) is very, VERY slow I would be more then happy if you could remove the adverts from this area, as they only slow the page down. Also: Please note that often changes are not saved, due to no apparent reason.
Also on Wednesdays, unfortunately THE day for me, your site / database is not available in the morning hours, most of the time between 09.00 and 11.00.
I would appreciate if someone could look into my concerns and give them a thought.
Best wishes,
Trimbitas
Andrei,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. To my knowledge we do not have banner advertising in the Administration (back end / gateway) side of any of our products; nor should we, as you rightly point out.
I am concerned however that you are seeing banner advertising when accessing the jobsgopublic.com Administration interface.
There are a number of possibilities - the worst of which is that your machine may have been compromised by malware that injects advertising into your web browser. As a matter of urgency you will receive a call from our technical support team shortly to diagnose the issue. In preparation for this could you please take a screenshot of the offending web page - simply click ALT + PrtSc - and then paste the screen-shot into an email or document.
As I’m sure you are aware the above designs are for the public facing side of the jobsgopublic service namely www.jobsgopublic.com.
We have released details of the Administration interface via the client blog here http://messageboard.jgp.co.uk/2007/09/12/screen-shots/
Regarding your feedback around Wednesday morning traffic/response times I can only apologise for any issues you may have experienced. We have many monitoring solutions in place, none of which show any significant downtime on Wednesday mornings. This could also be a general traffic issue emanating from your network. If you would like a further objective appraisal of our service availibility there are many free tools available to monitor website uptime. Simply Google “web uptime monitoring tools”.
I hope this helps - talk soon.
Cheers,
Eben
I have just looked at the test site for the new jobsgopublic network.
What a brilliant site, easy to navigate and so much easier to see what jobs are relevant in the search.
Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the real thing.
Regards,
Jill.
Thanks Jill.
Hi.
You might want to look at including the locations of vacancies on the Full Vacancy Search page. Currently, you have to click on each job to discover where it is! (http://www.jobsgopublic.com/vacancies/full_search).
Thanks.
Why can’t you filter for jobs by region as before?
Tim,
Thanks for the feedback.
We launched the test site for comments over a month ago and your feedback has coincided with our launch day.
Now that we’ve launched we will be looking to push out another release in the New Year. We’ll look into your usability concerns at that time.
Until that time you can use the full search page here
http://www.jobsgopublic.com/vacancies/full_search to filter by location
Cheers
Eben
Tom,
It’s an option we’ve looked at - it’s a case of not making the results page to information heavy - you could order by employer (whihc gives an idea of location) but yes ordering by postcode - or indeed searchign by postcode would be ideal - we just need to be sure all our job advertisers supply a full postcode for the job location and not just the ‘head office’ location.
We’ll be looking to incorporate your feedback in the next release in the New Year.
Cheers,
Eben
Hi - mixed views on the redesign: the home page is fairly easy on the eye apart from trying to read graphics over an image, which is worse on the Vacancies main page (and I think goes against accessibility guidelines).
Also, the heading fonts are serif which tends to be against accessibility guidelines - the main headings are fairly legible but I found the subheadings in bold less clear (and I have 20:20 vision!) - and you’ve used italics in the RSS bit, tut tut!
I also found it hard to find the “advanced search” function on the home page, though that could just be because I was being a bit ditzy lol.
But the “style” or “feel” of the new site is good, nice and relaxing - good luck with it!
PS - I forgot to say, even with those caveats above, it’s still by far the best jobs board I know of, in terms of functionality, and defining what you can search for!
Design of homepage is good but searching is poor, not sure wh the jobs are not ranked by date added like the previous site. It has also erased all my saved details which is frustrating.
Chris,
Thanks for your feedback on the site design. You can re-order the results list by clicking the column heading - one of those headings is ‘Posted’, as in date added - maybe that term is not clear?
In answer to your question: The search results are now displayed in terms of relevance e.g. How often your search term appears in the job description.
There is a balance to be had between how relevant the job is to your search term and when it was added. After all, a week old job could be far more relevant than a day old job no?
I would like to know why you’d like to see the results displayed in date order? Is it so that you can work out which one’s you’ve likely seen before?
Thanks again for the feedback and I look forward to more.
Eben
How you think when the economic crisis will end? I wish to make statistics of independent opinions!
hello it is test. WinRAR provides the full RAR and ZIP file support, can decompress CAB, GZIP, ACE and other archive formats.
