Grads showing keen interest in the public sector

It appears that the economic crisis we are currently facing within the finance and banking sectors has had a positive impact on the attractiveness of the public sector as a whole.
Graduate job applications have increased 22pc in the last year with university leavers now shunning traditional routes into the banking and finance sectors for the relative safe-haven of the public sector. Gus O'Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary believes the link is from graduates foreseeing the potential threat of job losses as much higher in the private sector than the public (Graduates turn to public sector jobs as recession deepens).
This rise in qualified candidates job seeking within the public sector is great news for local authorities currently recruiting or planning to advertise their 2009 vacancies, and shows that the expected slowdown in jobseeking over the christmas period will probably end with a boost in christmas job applications and searching.
